The Bird's newborn Chicks make a brief appearance near the end of A Bug's Life.

"Down the hatch! The baby birds don't look adorable to Hopper—they look terrifying! When Flik tricks the nasty bully into approaching the mother bird's nest, she snatches Hopper in her beak. In seconds, he will be bird food."^[1]

A Bug's Life

During Flik and the circus bugs' encounter with the mother bird, the chicks are seen having not yet hatched from their eggs. By the end of the film, they have hatched and are seen preparing to eat Hopper, who was being held by their mother after Hopper mistook her for a fake bird.

Trivia

• For the chicks' scene in the film, John Lasseter chose an animator who he thought could do the cutest animation.^[2]
• The chicks are portrayed having downed bodies and open eyes, like the offspring of chickens, ducks, and birds of prey. In real life, chicks born to passerine birds are often shrink-wrapped and blind at birth. Also, mother birds don’t feed whole insects to chicks, they chew them into paste and then regurgitate them into their chicks’ mouths.
